General Manager - Hampton Inn - Butte 

Job Title: General Manager 
Reports To: President of Management Consultants, Inc.
Classification: Salaried Exempt 

Position Overview:

The General Manager provides leadership and management in all hotel operations including staffing, budgeting, forecasting, P&L responsibilities, sales & marketing, guest services and facilities management.  Establishes a positive work environment and an attitude of exceptional guest service and superior room cleanliness and enforces policies and procedures established by the company and the hotel brand.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, coordinates and implements the day-to-day operations of the hotel
  • Oversees hotel staffing to include recruitment & selection, orientation, training & development, scheduling, counseling, performance management, and other employee relations’ issues
  • Maintains personal contact with guests, clients and community organizations.
  • Prepares annual operating budget to include a sales, marketing and revenue management plan
  • Analyzes financial performance by comparing actual performance to planned performance, identifying variances, and initiating corrective action
  • Maintains product and service quality standards by implementing policies and procedures, investigating deficiencies/complaints, and initiating corrective action
  • Inspects guestrooms to ensure all cleanliness standards are met
  • Monitors and maintains procedures for control of supplies, inventories, and financial aspects of each department
  • Monitors and maintains procedures for safety and security of hotel staff and guests
  • Trained and willing to perform any position at the hotel
  • Responds to all emergency situations as needed, including locating and shutting down of gas valves, water valves, fire system and elevators
  • Remains current on industry trends and local market activities; responds to the same
  • Additional responsibilities assigned

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to cover nights, weekends, and on-call shifts based on the demands of the hotel
  • Ability to work longer hours when necessary to complete assigned projects/meet deadlines
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and evidence of self-insurability
  • Occasional travel

Qualifications:

  • College degree or related work experience
  • 5 + years of hotel experience with three years in a management position
  • 2 years of experience at a Hilton branded property
  • Efficient in Microsoft Office
  • Experience working with GRO, R&I, and other OnQ Property Management systems
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to speak clearly and listen attentively
  • Ability to read and write effectively
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to handle pressure and multitask
  • Positive attitude, outgoing and friendly personality
  • Strong leadership and a professional image

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Responsible for hiring, training and orientation of new staff members. Oversee any salary, disciplinary or staffing/ human resources-related actions in accordance with company rules and policies.
2. Implement programs that drive improvements in team member engagement and are aligned with the brand service behaviors. Develop, implement, and monitor team member succession planning to ensure future bench strength. Establish performance and development goals for team members and provide mentoring, coaching and regular feedback to enhance performance.
3. Tour the property on a daily basis and perform property inspections to maintain cleanliness and general maintenance of the hotel.
4. Make time to interact with guests, solicit feedback and build relationships.
5. Drive improvement in guest satisfaction goals. Collaborate with colleagues and hotel team members to establish and implement services and programs that meet or exceed guest expectations.
6. Maintain compliance with all required brand standards, behaviors, and license agreement mandates.
7. Responsible for equitable administration of company policy as it relates to all employees.
8. Responsible for evaluating and motivating all supervisory personnel as well as leading weekly supervisor meetings.
9. Responsible for evaluating market and providing input in establishing room rates and wages and benefits.
10. Prepare annual budget and sales and marketing plans to accurately forecast and achieve needed operating results.
11. Utilize financials to drive revenues, future profitability, and maximize return on investment. Lead capital plans to maintain or better the property’s market leadership position.
12. Conducts a weekly or bi-weekly revenue management meeting with key staff.
13. Conducts a monthly all-staff and safety meeting.
14. Attends all Department Staff meetings and presents any pertinent information to staff.
15. Responsible for reporting and distribution of payroll, purchase orders and invoices.
16. Ensures a safe and secure environment for guests, team members, and hotel assets in compliance with Town Pump’s policies and procedures.
17. Active in selling the property to companies, groups, and organizations as well as actual booking and planning of meetings, set-up, and follow through with groups in house. Performs sales call requirements as needed.
18. Assists in all inventories, evaluations of stock on hand, and requisitions supplies or places local orders. Will negotiate or bid services of outside vendors and evaluate vendor performance.
19. Complete and/or verify all reports submitted to the Corporate Office, as well as analysis of previous day’s audit. Prepare end of month reports.
20. Act as public relations representative to raise awareness of hotel and brand in local community.
21. Handle complaints or requests from guests in the form of letters, emails, phone calls, via social media, or in person.
22. Assume responsibility in all departments where heavy workload exists. These areas may include, but are not limited to, front desk, maintenance, and housekeeping.
23. Work and communicate with staff and Corporate Office Management.
